Injured Worker Gets Help Navigating a Bureaucratic Maze

Posted By Thomas F. Martin, PLC || 14-May-2014

Susan Mendel was a workers’ compensation claims adjuster until she tripped over a box in her office two years ago, injuring her back and landing on the outside of a system she once promoted.

Mendel, 45, of Fullerton, wanted surgery, but the workers’ comp doctors hired by her company showed no sympathy.

“They made you feel bad for hurting,” she said.

So, after months of physical agony, she turned for assistance to Thomas F. Martin, a Santa Ana attorney who specializes in workers’ comp cases.

“I think it’s necessary to have one,” she said of her lawyer. “I have a relatively simple case and I’m well-educated. But it’s a bureaucratic maze and I didn’t feel up to negotiating the system.”
